Physical Bodily Changes during Meditation
The positive physical effects of meditation have been documented by many scientific studies but the actual mechanism that produces the changes has yet to be fully understood or proven. Scientists have proven that the positive changes that occur during meditation are not caused by just "keeping still". The brainwave patterns recorded during meditation is very different from those that are sleeping. Some of the notable physical reactions that have been observed are: 1.) A decrease in blood pressure. 2.) The body seems to require less oxygen during meditation 3.) The heart rate slows. 4.) There is a decrease in the levels of lactic acid found in the blood (and for years now lactic acid has been linked to high anxiety). Overall - Meditation has many physical benefits in addition to spiritual rewards, stress relief and alleviation of tension. |
