Change the water in your container daily. Cut off the end of each stem at an angle, with sharp shears. Remove all leaves below the water level or will begin to decompose. Pick flowers in the early morning for best results. Try this floral arrangement for a long lasting bouquet: Fill a large pitcher or vase with water. Add fern, as greenery. Cut all your flower stems and place the tallest ones in pitcher first. Add 1 tsp. of sugar to water. Add the rest of the tall flowers. (Try glads, phlox, larkspur or delphiniums.) Add your fillers last. (astilbe, statice, and roses make nice fillers) Your initial bouquet will stay fresh for about 3 or 4 days. Re cut stems and remove wilted flowers after 3 - 4 days. Place the remaining flowers in a smaller container. This arrangement should be good for another 3 or 4 days. Repeat the process one last time, throwing away wilted flowers and moving the rest to a smaller container or adding more statice, babies breath or bachelor buttons (as needed) to your bouquet each time you rearrange. |
